Football team takes glory in kit made from recycled plastic

Girls from a British junior school have won their first 7- a- side football tournament wearing a brand new kit made from the plastic bottles they recycled.

The students took up recycling after attending a Roadshow organized by the UK Marine Conservation Society on how plastic littered in the sea poses a threat to marine wildlife, according to a press release from the British Plastics Federation.

“The whole school felt incredibly inspired to make a difference to the pollution of our seas. When they realized that much of the pollution comes from plastic washed up on the shore, they really were motivated to collect the plastic bottle tops”, said Peter Barker, Headteacher, of Patcham Junior School.

In the last two years, with funding from BPF, PAFA and PlasticsEurope, Plastics 2020 has enabled the Marine Conservation Society to deliver 157 ‘Cool Seas Roadshows’. The events educate children on the wonders of the ocean and the irresponsibility of post-consumer plastic waste litter. Some 26,971 primary students have been involved so far, with 207,020 bottles recycled.
